Dr. Dutt is a Principal Investigator/Assistant Professor at ACTREC/ Tata Memorial Center Research since December 2010. Focus of her lab is to understand molecular mechanisms that confer radiation and chemo resistance to cancer.

Dr. Dutt received her Ph.D. in Neurobiology and Biochemistry at University of Zurich, Switzerland in the laboratory of Prof. Dieter Zimmermann studying the molecular pathways involved in the axonal guidance and nerve regeneration. Her work sheds new light on the role of extracellular matrix molecules in these processes.

She received prestigious post doctoral fellowship from the Swiss National Science Foundation, Switzerland and moved to Boston, United States for her postdoctoral research in the laboratory of Dr. John Manis and Dr Benjamin Ebert at Harvard Medical School where she worked to understand DSB repair and response pathways in suppressing genomic instability in cancer with a focus on hematological malignancies. Her findings have led to a better understanding of genetic basis of cancer, and hold promise for finding therapeutic opportunities cancer.

At ACTREC, her laboratory focuses on understanding molecular basis of radiation and chemo resistance in cancer with particular focus on DNA damage response (DDR) of resistant cancer cells and its interplay with histone modifications. For this her lab has developed patient derived in vitro cellular and pre clinical orthotopic mouse model systems. The lab has identified radiation induced homotypic cell fusions of residual tumor cells as novel non-genetic mechanism to sustain survival and relapse in cancers. In addition, the lab has also identified biomarker that can predict the onset of acquired resistance and novel molecules that can be targeted to prevent the emergence of resistance in cancer. The lab actively collaborates with the clinicians at ACTREC and TMH to extend their findings from model systems to patient samples for the translational benefits of their studies.
